The Pakistan Special Service Group is called the SSG and is a commando division of the Pakistan Army. They are very similar to the British SAS and the United States Green Berets in military combat. They number officially 2100 men.

The SSG was created with the help of the United States special operations in 1956 and was based upon US special forces patterns that were practiced during the years of the Cold War.
How To Become A Member Of The SSG
Those who want to be members of the SSG must have two years of experience in the military in Pakistan before applying. They must then endure an enduring training program and be willing to serve for at least 3 years with the SSG. Enlisted men as well as non commissioned officers who make the SSG must serve for life.
SSG Training
Training for the SSG takes place over an eight month course and includes grueling physical conditioning as well as airborne training with jumps. There is also special training available for those who make the SSG.
What Are They Best At?
They have been involved in various missions and were originally formed to engage the enemy in times of war. However, in recent years, they have been known to specialize in anti-terrorist training.
Weapons Of The SSG
Weapons include the Steyr AUG, HK G3, Chinese 81/56 rifles, Colt M4 carbines, HK MP5 sub machine guns, sniper rifles. Counter terrorism units are given the Barrett M82, Finnish Tikka bolt action rifles, Dragunov SVD Semi-automatic rifles and various pistols of Heckler & Koch.
Known Missions
Most recently, they have been involved in various counter terrorism activities that included several terrorist hijackings, thwarting the Lahore police academy attacks and attacks at the Pakistan Military Headquarters.

Units consist of 10 battalions each with 700 men. There are also the Moses Company that specialize in amphibious operations as well as the Haideri Company that specializes in Counter Terrorism.
